Job Description

Overview

Our team is assisting a well‑established organization in the real estate and financial services sector with the recruitment of a Litigation Attorney for its Midwest legal group. This role centers on handling a variety of residential and commercial real estate matters, including foreclosure litigation, title concerns, and related financial disputes.

The attorney in this position will regularly appear in court, craft litigation strategy, prepare motions and pleadings, manage discovery, and negotiate resolutions. The environment is highly collaborative and supportive, offering autonomy while still providing guidance from experienced peers and leadership.

This opportunity includes a hybrid work model, a flexible schedule, and exposure to diverse case types. Attorneys who demonstrate strong performance and professional growth will have opportunities for long‑term advancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of contested litigation matters on behalf of mortgage lenders, servicers, and investors.
  • Attend court proceedings and present arguments for both routine and contested foreclosure actions, title issues, HOA/COA disputes, and other real estate‑related cases.
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients regarding case status, strategy, and outcomes.
  • Review and analyze loan documents, title reports, and supporting materials.
  • Draft motions, pleadings, and written discovery; prepare responses and conduct legal research as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree and active Illinois law license in good standing.
  • 1–3 years of litigation experience, ideally involving mortgage foreclosure, creditor rights, or real estate disputes.
  • Strong understanding of the Illinois Mortgage Foreclosure process.
  • Familiarity with the Illinois Code of Civil Procedure and Illinois Supreme Court Rules.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong written advocacy skills and clear oral communication.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable working independently or within a team environment.
  • Professionalism and sound judgment in interactions with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all organizational levels.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This role primarily involves office‑based work in a standard professional setting, whether remote or on‑site. Duties may require extended periods of sitting, communicating, or using a computer. Occasional standing, walking, reaching, or light lifting (up to 25 pounds) may be needed.
